What the event is and what to expect
Descanso is celebrating ten years of Enchanted Forest of Light in 2026 with returning favourites such as Flower Power and the Ancient Forest, an all-new laser light show with a "snowfall" finale, and, for the Japanese Garden's 60th anniversary, Giant Koi. The route is about 1 mile of well-lit, signed pathway with an ambient soundscape; some installations are interactive, some cycle through colours and sounds, and Descanso notes that some include flashing lights. Hot drinks, snacks and The Store are open, restrooms are open, and the whole site is cashless.
Descanso says it gets cold at night and recommends a coat, scarf, hat and gloves; the event runs rain or shine, so bring an umbrella if rain is forecast. Outside food is not allowed, and no pets other than ADA service dogs. Daytime admission to the gardens is separate: an Enchanted ticket covers only the evening event, presented after the gardens' regular 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours.
Tickets and admission
Tickets are sold by date and entry time on the official site ↗ or by phone at 818.949.4200, and Descanso says popular nights will sell out. The published 2026 prices: general admission for non-members, adults $29–$52 and children $19–$37, the exact figure depending on how busy the date and time slot is; members pay adults $22–$45 and children $12–$30; an Anytime ticket, valid any night of the run, is $85 for non-members and $65 for members; children 2 and under are free. The $12 you may see on Descanso's calendar listing is the lowest member child price, not an adult ticket.
Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled. There are no group discounts, and groups arriving by bus must phone ahead because parking is limited. Lux4Rides is not affiliated with Descanso Gardens and sells transportation only.
Families: children, strollers and the walk
The route is accessible for strollers, wheelchairs and mobility devices, and Descanso's main asphalt paths are stroller-friendly; a limited number of wheelchairs are free to borrow at Guest Services, first-come, first-served. Children must stay with an adult. Most families take the walk at a toddler's pace, so an early entry time suits the under-fives.
Tell us each child's age and weight when you book. A rear-facing seat, a convertible seat or a booster is $25 each per ride, up to three of each, installed before the chauffeur leaves for your pickup. A Luxury SUV carries 7 passengers and 6 bags, an Escalade Elite 6 and 5, a Comfort Sedan 3 and 3; two families together fit a Mercedes Sprinter, up to 14 when booked online.
Getting there: Descanso's parking and arrival rules
Descanso Gardens is at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011, near the junction of the 210 and 2 freeways; Descanso puts it at about 20 minutes from downtown Los Angeles and 10 minutes from Pasadena in normal traffic. Parking is free, in the lot adjacent to the gardens, on a first-come, first-served basis; during Enchanted, parking attendants direct arriving cars to the Descanso lots, and valet operates on busy weekends. Descanso does not publish a separate drop-off curb for private cars: your chauffeur follows the attendants' direction to the entrance, drops you, and leaves the lot rather than taking a space. Descanso says its parking is limited and asks buses and groups to phone ahead to reserve, so a chauffeured vehicle for a larger party should be arranged the same way.
On the way out, you message the chauffeur as you reach the exit and meet at the point you agreed on arrival; on an hourly booking the chauffeur stages nearby where waiting is permitted. Descanso Drive is a quiet residential road with little lighting, so agree a specific landmark before you go in.
- From Pasadena, South Pasadena or San Marino: 10 to 20 minutes; our Pasadena black car page covers local pickups.
- From downtown Los Angeles, Beverly Hills or the Westside: the 2 or the 134 to the 210; allow 45 to 75 minutes on a December evening.
- From Burbank or the San Fernando Valley: the 134 east to the 2 north, usually the quickest approach.
- From Irvine, Newport Beach or Long Beach: a long drive, where two scheduled transfers beat paying for freeway hours.
Timing the arrival and the exit
Arrive at the start of your entry window rather than at the end; the queue at the gate is shortest then, and the earlier you enter, the quieter the first installations are. Most guests take 60 to 90 minutes. Descanso's lot empties onto a single road, and the busiest nights, the weekends between Christmas and New Year, produce a slow crawl out; a chauffeur who is already staged nearby meets you at the agreed point and avoids the lot entirely.
From Pasadena, Glendale, La Cañada and the Valley, a 4-hour hourly block covers the ride over, the walk and dinner in Old Pasadena or Montrose on the way home. From Los Angeles, Beverly Hills or Calabasas, two scheduled transfers are usually the better price unless you want the dinner stop; the booking form shows both with your addresses.
