Dates, times and the route
The 2026 parade, the 118th, runs Wednesday, December 16 through Sunday, December 20. It starts at about 6:30 p.m. each night off Lido Isle and ends around 9:00 p.m., starting and finishing at the tip of Lido Isle. The organizers describe a 14-mile route with as many as 100 boats, from kayaks to yachts of more than 100 feet, and publish a 2026 route map with the times the parade reaches each point; download it from the official site before you choose a spot.
Because the boats take two and a half hours to make the loop, you do not need to be at the start. A spot further along the route gives you more time for dinner first. The parade is organized by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce and hosted by its Commodores Club.
Where to watch
Marina Park, 1600 W Balboa Boulevard, is the largest public viewing area on the route, a 10.5-acre park with a playground, where the parade passes at about 6:45 p.m. On opening night, Wednesday December 16, Marina Park hosts a free kick-off: the event starts at 4:00 p.m., a holiday market with more than 35 local makers and food vendors runs from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., fireworks go up at 6:15 p.m. and the parade sails past at about 6:45 p.m. The park has 177 parking spaces, which go early on opening night.
For first-timers, the organizers suggest the Balboa Fun Zone, free to enter. The Newport Sea Base offers reserved waterfront seating, with seats from 7:00 p.m. and the parade visible at about 8:37 p.m., and lists limited parking at $25 per vehicle. Waterfront restaurants along the route offer dinner with a view, and the organizers warn they fill early.
Getting there: parking, traffic and where the car stops
There is no designated drop-off or rideshare zone for the parade. The organizers' directions page says parking is available in all City parking lots, that street parking along the parade route is also available, and that because parking lots fill up quickly, you should allow extra time. Their route page adds that with thousands of people watching each evening, you should arrive as early as possible.
The organizers' directions bring you in on the 405 south to the 55 south, staying on the 55 until it ends at Newport Boulevard, then straight on Newport Boulevard until the harbor appears on your left; their other routes also lead to the Newport Boulevard (Balboa Peninsula) exit. On parade nights the lots nearest the water are the first to fill, and the roads onto the peninsula slow down with them.
That is where a chauffeur changes the evening. Your chauffeur drops you at the curb nearest your viewing spot, restaurant or cruise dock, following posted signs and any traffic control on the night, then stages where waiting is permitted. On an hourly booking the chauffeur and vehicle are reserved for the hours you book and come back when you message; you do not need a parking space at all, and nobody in the party is driving after dinner.
- Cruise departures: several charter companies listed on the parade's site run parade cruises from the harbor. Give us the dock address and departure time, and we set the pickup from it.
- Rain: the parade runs rain or shine. It is cancelled for the night only if the Coast Guard issues a small craft advisory; the decision is made at 6:00 p.m. and posted on the parade's website.
Dinner, a cruise, or both
The most popular plan is dinner on the water and the parade from the window or the dock outside. The organizers list Dine & Watch waterfront restaurants and Dine & Walk options near public viewing spots, and they say reservations go early. A second plan is a parade cruise: charter and sport-fishing companies in the harbor run decorated boats that travel with the parade, with several departures each night. A third is to watch from Marina Park or the Fun Zone and eat afterwards, when the crowds thin.
Any of the three works with an hourly booking: a 4-hour block covers a pickup at about 5:00 p.m., dinner, the parade and the ride home for most Orange County addresses; a 6-hour block allows a longer drive or a second stop. Extra time is billed at the same hourly rate.
Families and groups
Opening night at Marina Park is built for families, with the playground, the market and early fireworks at 6:15 p.m., so young children can see the boats and be home at a sensible hour. We install rear-facing, convertible and booster seats at $25 each per ride; on an hourly booking they stay in the car all evening. A Luxury SUV seats seven, an Escalade Elite six, and a Mercedes Sprinter up to fourteen when booked online, which suits an office holiday party or two families sharing one car.
Coming from Orange County, Los Angeles or the airport
From Irvine, Costa Mesa or Huntington Beach, Newport Harbor is a short drive; a 4-hour block covers most evenings. From Long Beach, Anaheim or the Disneyland area, allow longer on a weekday evening; enter your address and the booking form sets the hours. From Los Angeles, Beverly Hills or Pasadena, the distance is enough that the form raises the hourly minimum; compare that with two scheduled transfers. Visitors staying near Disneyland for the holidays can combine the parade with the resort: LAX to the Disneyland Hotel was $165 one way in a Comfort Sedan on October 10, 2026, for scale.
