What the season includes
Grinchmas takes over Universal Plaza: the Dr. Seuss-inspired tree lighting with its wintery snowfall, a live reading of How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Cindy-Lou Who followed by a meet and greet, and the Who-ville Post Office where children write the Grinch a postcard listing their good deeds. Elsewhere in the park: Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter with a snow-capped Hogsmeade, holiday décor and characters at SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Illumination's new Merry Minions, holiday character encounters, seasonal food and merchandise. Universal CityWalk is decorated with its own Christmas tree and is open without a park ticket.
Universal states that prices, times, dates and entertainment are subject to change without notice, and the park's hours vary by day across the season. Check the calendar ↗ for your date before you set a pickup time, and look up the day's showtimes in the Universal app once you are inside.
Tickets and admission
This is not a separately ticketed event. Holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood is included with your theme park ticket or Annual/Season Pass, with blockout dates applying to passes. If you hold a pass, check its blockout calendar for the late-December dates before you book transport. Universal's page does not list a ticket price; buy on the official site ↗ and read the date-based total there. Lux4Rides is not affiliated with Universal and sells transportation only.
Halloween Horror Nights, which closes November 1, is a different, separately ticketed event.
Families: children, strollers and bags
Tell us each child's age and weight when you book. A rear-facing seat, a convertible seat or a booster is $25 each per ride, up to three of each, installed before the chauffeur leaves for your pickup. Strollers fold into the cargo area but take space: a Luxury SUV carries 7 passengers and 6 bags, an Escalade Elite 6 and 5, a Comfort Sedan 3 and 3.
Universal rents strollers and wheelchairs just inside the park, across from the Universal Studios Store, if you would rather not bring your own. Universal also asks guests to bring small bags to speed up the front-gate security check. Young children often finish well before park closing; an hourly booking lets you leave when they are done rather than at a time you guessed a week earlier.
Getting there: parking, drop-off and pickup at Universal
Universal's address is 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA 91608, off the 101 at the Universal Studios Boulevard or Lankershim Boulevard exits. Its directions page publishes parking rates and driving directions, and a Metro pedestrian bridge at Lankershim and Universal Hollywood Drive for transit riders; it does not publish a dedicated curb for private cars or rideshares. That means a chauffeur cannot promise a named pickup spot at the gate. What works: the chauffeur drops you as close as Universal's traffic staff allow on the day, you agree the return meeting point by text while you are inside, and on an hourly booking the chauffeur stages nearby where waiting is permitted and comes to that point when you message.
Driving yourself: Universal's published daily rates are $40 for general parking before 5 p.m. and $10 after 5 p.m., preferred parking from $60 before 5 p.m. and from $20 after, and front-gate parking from $70; general parking is subject to availability and rates may change without notice. Valet is $25 for the first two hours and $60 after that. Accessible parking is first-come, first-served in every structure. These rates exclude Halloween Horror Nights dates.
- From LAX: roughly 20 miles via the 105, 110 and 101, Universal's suggested route; allow 60 to 90 minutes in holiday traffic. Our LAX to Universal Studios page covers terminal pickup and flight tracking; inside-terminal meet and greet is $60 per booking.
- From Beverly Hills, Calabasas or the Valley: the 101 or Barham from Hollywood; enter your address in the booking form and the fare is set by the mapped distance.
- From Pasadena or Orange County: the 134 or the 5 to the 101; a longer drive, which is where two transfers usually beat an hourly booking.
- Staying at a Universal partner hotel? Pickups at the hotel are simpler than the garages.
Timing the arrival and the exit
Holiday crowds build from mid-morning, and the garages are the slow part. Being dropped before park opening avoids both the parking queue and the escalator walk with a stroller. At closing the whole park funnels through CityWalk to the garages, and the exit takes 30 to 45 minutes on a busy night; a chauffeur already staged nearby meets you at the agreed point instead of circling. Dinner at CityWalk after the lighting is a stop on an hourly booking, not a second ride.
From Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Calabasas or Pasadena, an hourly booking covers the drive in, the park day and the drive home in one block. From Irvine, Newport Beach or Long Beach, two scheduled transfers usually cost less because the booked hours would otherwise be spent on the freeway.
